Notebook Cooler NP 6900 from JetArt

The amount of Centrino notebooks increases month by month. The benefit of Centrino notebooks are their reduced power consumption and thereby decreased heat development. But the faster the Centrinos become, the more electric power they use. With processors which do not belong to the family of mobile CPUs the heat development is nowadays high enough. Furthermore, it depends on the inserted graphic card. Modern graphic cards use often equal or even more power than the CPUs.

One who owns a notebook with increased heat development is well advised with a notebook cooler. The notebook cooler NP 6900 from Jetart is with its two ultra silent fans a good choice. It captivates by its compactness and functionality and can also be used as a USB Hub and a card reader.

The notebook cooler was recognized and installed without any problems by Windows XP. The additional driver CD, which includes drivers for Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, was not needed. Problematic with the CD is that it is a mini CD and this is not usable in a CD Rom drive without draw-in carriages (slot-in drives e.g.).

The NP6900 adds, in best case three and in worst case one additional USB 2.0 interfaces. It is equipped with 3 USB 2.0 interfaces and a USB mini interface that serves as up-link. If the notebook has 3 USB interfaces, one of them will be used for the up-link. Now five USB interfaces are available (two additional one). But if you want to use an USB cable as power supply (instead of the normal power supply) it costs additional one USB interfaces. The benefit is that you don't have to ware so much cables with you and you save one plug.

The cooling performance with the test equipment (Acer Aspire 2003WLMI) amounted to between 1°C and 12°C. The largest cooling effect could be measured on the back of the notebook. On the front side, the temperature difference amounted to only 1-2°C. In the below images you can see the heat distribution on the notebook. The best cooling effect is on the back side of the notebook.

The notebook cooler is most effective with Notebooks with openings in the center of the lower surface. However this leads to a bad cooling effect when the notebook is used in the normal way, without the cooler.

On the whole the notebook cooler fulfills its work well, a cooling of 12°C should be enough to cool some hot Notebooks down. How strong the cooling effect is depends a bit on the fan architecture of the notebook.

A small deficiency is that the notebook cooler does not possess rubber knots on the lower surface, therefore it can slip easily back and forth on a smooth underground. On the top side of the cooler there are swinging out rubber knots placed. With them the notebook can not slip from the cooler.

The card reader can read the following memory cards:

  • Compac Flash (CF)
  • Compac Flash II (CK II)
  • IBM Microdrive (MD)
  • SmartMedia (SM)
  • SecureDigital (SD)
  • MultimediaCard (MMC)
  • Sony Memory Stick (MS)
  • Sony Memory Stick Pro (MS PRO)

Noise

The notebook cooler is equipped with an adjusting wheel for the fan speed. The rotations per minute (RPM) can be adjusted from 1800 to 2500. If the notebook coolers fan speed is turned to full achievement, the cooling noise is  already clearly perceptibly, but still bearable. On lowest number of rotations the cooler is nearly not audibly, only some quite cracks are hearable.
